Lance Michael Rayner was born March 5, 1998 in Fargo, ND the son of Jason and Renae (Branson) Rayner.

 

Lance was a 6th grader at Finley-Sharon School. He passed away February 10, 2010 in his farm home after a seven year battle with cancer surrounded by his loved ones.

 

Lance had a contagious smile that brightened everyone’s day. He was always happy and had a positive attitude, never complaining and had a love for life.  He loved playing cards, drawing, coloring and playing with his legos.  Lance loved playing with his brothers and enjoyed having his friends over for sleepovers.  One of his favorite things was telling jokes to friends and family. Lance also enjoyed going to Golden Lake where he would go tubing and at night sit around the fire.  He was able to meet his NASCAR idle Dale Earnhardt Jr. and took a trip to Disney Land and many other outings with his family. 

 

 

He is survived by his parents; Jason and Renae, Finley, ND; two brothers, Logan and Lucas at home; Grandmother: Janice Rayner. Phoenix, AZ; Grandfather: Paul Rayner, Hatton, ND; Great Grandparents: Bruce and Sue Laughlin, Mesa AZ: Great Grandmother, Arlene Beekman, Pensacola, FL and many Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.

John Manley Aarestad, 79, longtime McHenry resident died in peace January 12, 2010.

 

John was born September 1, 1930 in McHenry, ND the son of the late John Sr. and Marie (Torrison) Aarestad.  He was raised and educated in McHenry and was owner and operator of the McHenry City Meat Market and Grocery for over four decades.

 

John was a lifelong dedicated member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, in McHenry where he enjoyed teaching Sunday School for many years.  A gifted self-taught musician, he played the organ, accordion, piano, guitar, mandolin, and violin.  He also loved restoring antiques, played baseball in his youth, fished, hunted and was a member of the McHenry Fire Department.

 

An avid historian, he enjoyed traveling through out the upper Midwest researching historical sites, creating miniature replicas of buildings and communities and reading our country’s history.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marie and John Aarestad Sr., three brothers, Elton, Burton and Wesley.  John is survived by his Aunt – Olivia Miller; sister-in-law – Judell Aarestad; three nieces and four grandnieces.

Benjamin Arthur Henrickson 41, of Fargo, ND died Thursday, January 14, 2010 near Finley, ND.

 

Ben was born January 4, 1969 in Seattle, WA the son of Judy and Nordeen Sorlien.  He grew up and attended school in Finley, ND and graduated from Finley-Sharon High School in 1987.  He attended North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, where he received his degree.   He then attended NDSU for accounting.

 

He worked for Northern Improvement for two years.  In 1995 Ben started his one business Specialize Contracting in Fargo, he owned and operated it until his death.

 

Ben enjoyed hunting (playing with his boys) and being a Cub Scout Master.

 

He is survived by his three sons – Benjamin Arthur II, William Richard, Theodore Jon all of Fargo, ND; Parents - Judy and Nordeen Sorlien, Finley, ND; sister – Tina Henrickson-Kamrud, Fargo, ND; nephew – Jackson and several uncles, aunts, cousins, step-brothers and step-sisters.

 

Preceded in death by his biological parents and grandfather Vernon.

Warren C. Peterson, 82, of Finley, ND, died Sunday, January 10, 2010 in the Aneta Health Care Center in Aneta, ND.

 

Warren was born September 2, 1927 on the family farm near Finley, the son of William and Cora (Johnson) Peterson.  He was baptized, confirmed and a lifelong member of the Hofva Lutheran Church until its closing after which time he became a member of the Luverne Lutheran

Church.

 

He worked for the Lemna Oil Co. and the Sheperd Elevator Co., both of Cooperstown. 

 

Warren was a member of the Riverside Township Board for many years and he and his sons did grave opening and closing for several funeral homes for 30 years.

 

He married Esther Fredrickson on September 2, 1949.  They farmed until retiring in 2006. 

 

He is survived by his wife Esther of 60 years, daughter Cheryl (Daniel) Lee; two sons, Gary, and Michael (Cheryl); 5-grandsons, Brian (Donna) Lee, Patrick Lee, Derrick Lee, Matthew, Joshua (Cassy) Peterson, one granddaughter, Danielle (Jarrod) Lindemann; two great granddaughters, Tessa and Melanie Lee, one great grandson, Alex Lee, two sisters, Alvina Ott, Constance Loge, one brother Clarence (Peggy) Peterson; one sister-in-law, Isabelle Peterson; many nieces and nephews.

 

He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. 

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Cora Peterson, one brother, Lawrence and one infant sister.

A. Maurice Dunker 86 of Fargo, ND, died December 17, 2009, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, ND.

Albert Maurice “Maury” Dunker, 86, was born September 8, 1923, in Decatur, IL the son of Jacob and Nellie (Hutton) Dunker .  Growing up in the Great Depression, Maury helped in family enterprises—peddling donuts made by his mother, tending domestic rabbits that were raised for food, and working in his father’s tire and battery shop.   He graduated from Stephen Decatur High School and attended tech school in radio and electronics at the University of Kansas, before serving in the U.S. Army.

As a radio technician attached to an Armored Field Artillery Battalion, he participated in five WWII battles: the Normandy Invasion, the Battle of Northern France, the Rhineland Campaign, the Battle of the Bulge, and the Central Europe Campaign. During the war, he felt called into Christian service and changed his vocational plans from engineering to ministry.

He attended Milliken University briefly and graduated from Wheaton College (IL), where he met his sweetheart, Dorothy Arison. They married during college, and then Maury attended Dallas Theological Seminary. He served as pastor of two churches—Dubuque Bible Church and Sully Community Church—both in Iowa. He left full time ministry as a vocation, but never abandoned his calling to Christian service—volunteering in teaching, preaching, administrative, and support roles in churches while living in Winthrop Harbor, IL; McLean, VA; Ames, IA; and Cooperstown, ND. His second career was in civil service for the U.S. Navy, beginning at the Electronic Supply Office in North Chicago. He retired as a Contracts Administrator in the Naval Electronic Systems Command in Washington, D.C.

He maintained strong interests in classical music, photography, and computer technology.
 

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy (Arison) Dunker, Fargo,, ND; four children, Kathleen (Roger) Boyles and Roger Dunker, both of Colorado Springs; Russell (Colleen) Ford-Dunker, Fargo; and Rebecca (Eugene) Loge, rural Cooperstown; five grandchildren, Jenna Boyles, Colorado Springs; Spencer Boyles, Seattle, WA; Noah Ford-Dunker, John Ford-Dunker and Gabe Ford-Dunker, Fargo; and many extended family.

Nicholas D. Dekker, 64 of Minneapolis, passed away there, Monday, December, 14, 2009.

 

Nicholas Demitrie Dekker was born May 22, 1945 in Northwood, ND the son of Omar and Dorothy (Tait) Dekker.  He grew up and attended school in Finley, ND and graduated from Finley High School in 1964, later he graduated from Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, CA.

 

Nick after working in the photography field for several years, he returned to the Brooks Institute of Photography to instruct students until his retirement in 2008.  He moved to Minneapolis where he passed away Monday, December 14, 2009.

 

He enjoyed running, walking through the country side, returning home to see family and friends and of course his deep love of photography.

 

Nick is survived by his four siblings; Ben (Carolyn) Dekker, Aneta, ND; Peg (Dave) Muylaert, Anoka, MN; Joe (Barb) Dekker, Finley, ND; Jack (Debbie) Dekker, Grand Forks, ND and several nieces and nephews.

Dorothy B. Huso, 87 of  Fargo, ND formerly of Finley, ND died Tuesday in her home in Fargo, ND.

 

Dorothy Blanche Finney was born on September 29, 1922 in St. Vincent, MN. The daughter of Edward and Blanche (LeMasurier) Finney. She grew up and attended grade school in St. Vincent and high school in Pembina, ND.

 

She married Phil Huso on April 17, 1940 in Hallock, MN. Phil was in road construction which led them to move to many places in Minnesota and North Dakota until 1943 when they moved to Sherbrooke, ND where they farmed for a few years. In 1950 they moved to Finley, ND. Phil passed away in January 1977. Dorothy continued to make Finley her home until October 2008 when she moved to Fargo, ND.

 

Music was always a big part of her life and she loved to sing. She was always carrying a tune whether humming or singing, no matter where she was or what she was doing, you could always hear a melody. She was a choir member, soloist for many funerals and special occasions, as well as a church organist for several years. Dorothy also loved to dance.

 

Dorothy’s family meant the world to her.  She was always delighted to open her home and comfort her children and grandchildren with her special meals that were always prepared with love. Dorothy's greatest sense of fulfillment and joy came from her role as  “Gram”.  Her warm and contagious smile touched everyone she met. Even through health struggles, she possessed an unwavering optimism that was an inspiration to her family and those around her.

 

She was a member of the Finley Lutheran Church and a 50 year member of the order of the Eastern Star.

 

She is survived by two sons, Gary (Karen) Huso, Mayville, ND; Don (Denise) Huso, Finley, ND.Grandchildren; Brenda Jacobson (whom she raised), Warren Archer, Dave Archer, Steven Archer, Cathi Hanson, Douglas Huso, Susan Cordahl, Jason Huso, James Huso, Angela Reese, Bryan Huso and Kayla Huso, as well as twenty-one great grandchildren.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter Diane, one son Dean, grandchildren Connie, Dennis, and Donna Huso, one brother Max Finney, one sister Kay Gibson, and many nieces and nephews.

Bjarne Dramstad, 94, of  Cooperstown, ND passed away December 10, 2009 at the Cooperstown Medical Center Hospital in Cooperstown, ND. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Cooperstown Medical Center for their superlative care and support.

 

Bjarne was born November 8, 1915 to Hans and Bergina (Hagen) Dramstad on the family farm in Kingsley Township near Sutton, ND. He was baptized in the spring of 1916 at the country site of Mabel Lutheran Church three miles south and one mile west of Sutton, and was confirmed in 1932. Bjarne attended Sutton Public School and afterward graduated from Wapheton School of Science. He farmed for a few years with his brother Harry, worked with his brother Albert in Saco, MT, and later moved to California, where he worked for Lockheed aircraft until WWII started. There he met Clara Bakke, and on September 4, 1942 the couple were married in Austin, TX. Bjarne enlisted in the US Army in 1942, and ultimately served with the 95th Artillery Division in France and Germany during WWII. Clara continued working at Lockheed until Bjarne returned home in the fall of 1945, when they began their family and farming years.  He also worked for many years as a licensed electrician in the area.

 

In 1975, Bjarne and Clara bought a winter home in Palmetto, FL, where they spent 23 years of winter retirement before returning in 1998, and buying a home in Cooperstown, ND. Here they lived until they moved into Park Place Assisted Living in 2007.

 

Bjarne was a lifelong member of Mabel Lutheran Church where he served his Lord for years on the church council and spent many years on the church’s care and upkeep. In addition, he was active in other community affairs including 4-H leader, school board, and township board positions. He was also a very active amateur radio member, or “Ham”, which he started back in the early 50’s and continued until his last days. His call sign, W0ORU, was well known throughout the area, and his ham radio hobby proved many hours of enjoyment for him and his fellow operators.

 

Bjarne is survived by his wife Clara, two sons James (Teresa), Loren (Barbara), Binford, ND; two daughters Carol Johnson, Cooperstown, ND, Marian (Brach) Johnson, Bismarck, ND; one brother Edwin (Sylvia) Dramstad, Osseo, MN; one sister Evelyn (Darold) Anderson, Fargo, ND; nine grandchildren Janis (Martijn) Mulders; Valent (Lana) Bernat; Samantha Dramstad; Owen (Collette) Dramstad; Jill (Peter) Mains; Tim (Taya) Johnson; Jessica (Steve) Paulsen; Jennifer (DuWayne) Ditterich; Grant (Molly) Johnson; ten great grand children and many nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Albert, Sigurd, Martin and Harry; one sister, Esther Lundeen.

In her 89th year of life on a beautiful morning, Fern went to be with her Heavenly Father on November 16, 2009.

 

Fern was born in St. Cloud, MN December 21, 1920 the daughter of Albert and Jenny (Vigesaa) Schmitz.  Her family moved to Two Inlets, MN and then for a brief time in Illinois before moving to Cooperstown, ND in 1925.

 

In the mid 1930’s Fern worked as a nanny in Minneapolis.  While home on vacation she met Vincent Kubischta at a dance in Clifford.  Fern and Vincent were married October 8, 1940 at St. Agatha’s Catholic Church in Hope, ND.

 

In 1975 the couple moved to Dickinson where they spent 26 years in retirement.  Vincent died in June 2001.  Fern then moved to Bismarck.  Always one to quickly make friends, she spent several happy years at the Waterford.  Her last year of life was spent back in the Hope and Mayville communities.

 

In Hope she was involved with St. Agatha’s Catholic Guild and the American Legion Auxiliary. In Dickinson Fern volunteered at St. Luke’s Nursing Home, the Arc-Aid and a local museum.  At the Waterford, she quite often led devotions and was a member of the Red Hat Society.

 

Fern is survived by her children, Kenneth (Judy) Kubischta,, Belgrade, MT; Darlene (Arno) Jorgenson, Dickinson, ND; Bennett (Judy) Kubischta, Bismarck, ND; Dennis (Mary) Kubischta, Hope, ND; Kaylene (Aaron) Jepson, Killdeer, ND; Joel (Lana) Kubischta, Warren, MN; Annette (Patrick) Kirschenheiter, Bismarck, ND; thirty one grandchildren and thirty one great grandchildren, and one sister Viloa Sparrow, Portland, ND.

Ruth A. Lunn, 82, of Hannaford, ND, passed away on November 7, 2009, at the Griggs County Nursing Home in Cooperstown.

 

Ruth Adele Nelson was born August 30, 1927 in Chicago Illinois, the daughter of Nels and Ellen (Forsberg) Nelson.  The family moved to Hannaford, N.D. in 1929.  She graduated from Hannaford High School in 1945.

 

On February 14, 1951, she was united in marriage to BerLyle Lunn.  They made their home in rural Hannaford where they farmed.  BerLyle died February 20, 1981.

 

Ruth is survived by her daughters, Cheryl (Jay) Kruger, Wahpeton, N.D., and Dianne (Les) Koll, Wimbledon, N.D.; two granddaughters Tammy Kruger and Katherine Koll; two step-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law Mavis Nelson of Cooperstown.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother, Royce Nelson, and an infant daughter.




MARLYS ANN THOMPSON

Marlys Ann Thompson of Finley, North Dakota, passed away after fighting a long and courageous battle with lung cancer on October 26, 2009 at Mahnomen, Minnesota.

 

Marlys Deschene was born July 23, 1940, the daughter of Onesime and Beatrice (Bauman) Deschene, at Crookston, Minnesota.  She grew up and attended school in Argyle, Minnesota.

 

On February 24, 1959, she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Robert Thompson in Fort Hood, Texas where Robert was stationed in the Army.  Upon Robert’s discharge from the Army, they lived in various places until they settled in Finley in 1967, where they have resided ever since.  In recent years they have been spending their winters in Lake Havasu, Arizona.

 

Marlys had various hobbies that kept her busy.  Bowling, crafting and crocheting are a few.  Her favorite pastime was spending time with her family.  Marlys was a member of St. Olaf’s Catholic Church, Finley ND.

 

Marlys is survived by her husband of 50 years, Robert; daughters, Renee Norgaard of Finley, Julie Haaland of Finley,  Kimberly (Jerry) Hashbarger of Hope, ND, and Sherry (Jeff) Jacobson of Finley; brothers, Roger (Donna) Deschene of Lynchburg, VA, Kenneth (Marilyn) Deschene of Wisconsin Dells, WI, and Glen (Bernice) Deschene of Wisconsin Dells, WI;  12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

 

Marlys was preceded in death by her parents, Bea and Ole Deschene and a granddaughter, Kelley.

Corlyn Haugen, 82 of Valley City, ND died Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at the Sheyenne Care Center in Valley City, ND.

 

Corlyn Stangeland was born April 14, 1927 in Hills, MN the daughter of Sverre and Bertha (Ruud) Stangeland. She lived there for a time, and the family then moved to a farm near Argusville, ND and made their home there.  After graduating from high school, she attended Fargo Business College, then worked in medical records at St. Lukes Hospital, Fargo, ND.

 

On October 15, 1955 Corlyn married Mervin Haugen in Fargo, ND.  They made their home on a farm near Hannaford for 42 years.  She made many lunches that went out to the field, and always enjoyed trying new recipes.  Her meatballs were the best!!  She babysat her nephews and a neighbor girl for several years, and was a waitress at the Coachman Inn restaurant in Cooperstown for a short time.  Corlyn was a member of the Union Ladies Aid, American Legion Auxiliary, and taught Sunday School.  She has been a resident of the Sheyenne Care Center for the past 3 years.

 

Corlyn loved her grandchildren dearly, and touched the lives of all the people she met in a very special way.  She will be missed, but she is now safe in the arms of Jesus. 

 

She is survived by 2 daughters; Kay (Neil) Omdahl, Rogers, ND, Karla (Brent) Larsen, Elbow Lake, MN; sister, Harriet (Gilbert) Haugen, Willmar, MN;  ten grandchildren, Jessica & Jonathan Omdahl, Jennifer (Jeff) Williams, Indianapolis, Jeremy, Jared, Joanna, & Joshua Omdahl, and Gage, Jordyn, & Maddison Larsen,  and many nieces and nephews.

Lorraine Olsen, 84 of Binford, ND, died Thursday, October 15, 2009 in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, ND.

 

Lorraine Pederson was born March 21, 1925 on a farm five miles north of Binford, ND, the daughter of Palmer and Julia (Hoffich) Pederson.  From infancy she was raised by her grandparents John and Sina Pederson.

 

Lorraine married Melvin Ingvold Olsen July 2, 1943 in Binford, ND. The couple farmed in the Binford area.  Melvin passed away February 2, 1972.  She left the farm and moved into Binford on the east side in 1976 where she resided until her death.

 

She worked many years as a cook and baker at the Red Willow Lake Resort.  She was well known for her baked goods, bread, Norwegian “Goodies” and thousands of yummy lefse rounds.

 

She was very active in her Church.  She enjoyed music by performing organist duties and singing in the choir.  Bible study and Ladies Aid were important arms of her spiritual life.  Social friendship was enjoyed many years through the Willow Homemakers Club.

 

Lorraine is survived by three children: a daughter, Joan Richard, Dunseith, ND; son, Barry (Faith) Olsen, Moorhead, MN; son, Neal Olsen, St. Louis, MO; nine grandchildren, six great grandchildren with one expected in February, two step great grandchildren and many others that called her Grandma.

 

She was preceded in death by; her parents, husband, grandson, John Melvin Richard.

Michael (Torgy) C. Torgerson, 58, of West Fargo, ND, formerly of Cooperstown, ND, passed away October 6, 2009 at Innovis Health in Fargo, ND.

 

Michael Carl Torgerson was born September 25, 1951 in Fargo, ND the son of Carrol and Maxine (Rhode) Torgerson .  He grew up in Cooperstown and graduated from Cooperstown High School in 1970.

 

Mike entered the United States Air Force March 3, 1971, and was  honorably discharged May 6, 1974.

 

On January 25, 1975, he married Peggy Suess in Cooperstown, ND.  The couple made their home in several communities.  Torgy attended Pipestone AVTI in Pipestone, MN and received a degree in meat processing/cutting.  In 1984 he began working for NDDOT.  He drove semi for a short time.  He returned NDDOT and most recently retired in August 2009 due to poor health.

 

Torgy enjoyed riding motorcycle and was an active member of the Dakota Riders Motorcycle Club of Valley City, ND

 

Mike is survived by his wife, Peggy of West Fargo; son, Brent (Jessica) of Fargo, ND; father, Carrol (Ruthie) of Fort Mohave, Arizona.

 

He was preceded in death by his mother, Maxine (Rhode).

Irene Francis Simenson, 85 of Cooperstown, ND, died Sunday, October 4, 2009 in the Cooperstown Medical Hospital in Cooperstown, ND.

 

Irene Francis Soma was born July 9, 1924 in Cooperstown, ND the daughter of Omund and Kirsten (Tangen) Soma.  She grew up and attended school in Cooperstown and graduated from Cooperstown High School in 1944. She moved to Fargo for a short time before returning to Cooperstown.

 

On October 24, 1949 she married Roy Simenson in Detroit Lakes, MN.  The couple lived on the family farm until moving into Cooperstown in 1995. Roy passed away May 10, 2006.  Irene continued to make her home in Cooperstown, ND.

 

She is survived by a son; Rodney (Denise) Simenson, Peoria, AZ; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Simenson, St. Cloud, MN; five grandchildren, Trish (Domonic) Orella, Scott Simenson, Brad Simenson, Stacey Simenson, and Derek Simenson; two great grandchildren Ruby and Isaiah; one sister-in-law, Ruth Simenson, Cooperstown, ND.

 

Preceded in death by her parents, husband and a son Jerry.

Memorial Services will be held Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at 2:00 pm in the Faith Lutheran Church in Hannaford, ND.

 

Claude Melville Freer, 102 of Cooperstown, ND, formerly of Hannaford, ND passed away Wednesday, September 23, 2009 in the Cooperstown Medical Center Nursing Home where he had been a resident since October of 2006. 

 

Claude was born October 19, 1906 the son of Parke and Goldie Kimmel (Key) Freer on a farm north of Hannaford, ND.  His grandfather Jonas Freer was one of the original settlers in Broadview Twsp., in 1887.  When Claude was 2 years old the family moved to a homestead near Lemmon, SD and lived in a sod house.  In 1918 they moved to Wenatchee, WA to be near Goldie’s family.  They returned to the Hannaford area in 1922.

 

In 1937 he met and married Myrtle Bakken.  Times where hard and Claude and some friends traveled west to Washington looking for work and then south to Phoenix, AZ where he found work on the Bartlett Dam.  When the job ended he returned to the Hannaford area where they farmed near Walum and Revere.  In 1945 they bought the Walum Store and lived above the store for two years, living in Walum until 1998 when they moved to Hannaford.   Claude worked for Crane Johnson Lumber for 25 years, retiring at the age of 65.  He had two bosses during that time, Henry Swingen and Paul Vance.  After his retirement from Crane Johnson he did carpenter work and for 12 years managed the Stri-King Lanes, retiring for a second time at age 80.

 

In his spare time he loved to fish on Lake Ashtabula with Myrtle or various buddies.  Football was his favorite sport and he was known to watch one game on TV and listen to another on the radio.  Shortly after his 100th birthday in 2006 he and Myrtle moved to Cooperstown Medical Center Nursing Home.  Myrtle passed away October 2008 after 71 years of marriage.

 

He is survived by two daughters, Carole McKinney, Irvine, CA, Claudia (Jim) Jacobsen, Luverne, ND; a brother, Bert Freer, Anaconda, MT; a sister, Pat Ernst, Brooklyn Park, MN; grandchildren, Darcey (Don) Kosolofski, Hope, ND, Clay (Jessica) Jacobsen, Luverne, ND, Greg (Ruby) McKinney, Irvine, CA and great grandchildren; Brady Jacobsen, Kada Kosolofski, Mara Jacobsen, Kennedy Jacobsen, Greg McKinney Jr. and Lee McKinney.

Clifford Dahl 89 of Cooperstown, ND died Tuesday, September 22, 2009 in his home in Cooperstown, ND.

 

Clifford Leland Dahl was born on June 11, 1920 to John and Anna (Pearson) Dahl on a rural farm near Cooperstown.  He attended Ayrea School in Washburn Township and High School in Cooperstown. 

 

Clifford married Frances Bata on November 25, 1953 at St. John’s Chapel in Kensal, ND.  As a young adult he traveled to Portland, Oregon where he worked in the shipyards for two years.  Upon his return, he resumed farming and worked for the US Bureau of Animal Industries during the winters of 1947 and 1948. He farmed for over 40 years in Washburn Township until he retired in 1982.  Clifford and his four sons built a new house in Cooperstown where he and Frances retired.  His farm operation primarily consisted of small gains and row crop production.  Also, during various stages, he milked cows, raised registered Suffolk sheep, hogs, and beef cattle.  He also loved working his horses-both saddle and harness.

 

Clifford was a very active member of the Washburn Township Board for many years.  Clifford spent winters in Arizona and California from 1985 to 1996 with his sons and their families.  He enjoyed fishing, especially his fishing trips to Canada with the boys, word scramble, dancing, and visiting with family, friends and relatives.  He enjoyed driving his Jeep to check on the farm.  He was very proud of his sons’ and took an active interest in their careers.  He often accredited this to his best investment-a set of Work Book encyclopedias.

 

Clifford will be missed by his wife of nearly 57 years, Frances Dahl, Cooperstown, ND; four sons, Wayne (Mary) Dahl, Sacramento, CA; John Dahl, Lincoln, CA; Thomas (Ardys) Dahl, Cooperstown, ND; and Kevin (Roxanne) Dahl, Yuma, AZ; Six granddaughters, Ashley Dahl, Fargo, ND, Patricia Dahl, New York, NY, Lisa Dahl, Los Angeles, CA, Nicole Dahl, Yuma, AZ, Kathryn Dahl, Yuma, AZ and Angela Dahl, Cooperstown, ND; three brothers and one sister, Kenneth Dahl, Cooperstown, ND, Roy (Arlene) Dahl, Witchita, KS, Violet Walsvik, Hatton, ND and Norman (Lois) Dahl, Binford, ND.

Mary A. Jacobsen, 96 of Cooperstown, ND, was born January 22, 1913, in Baldwin Township, Barnes County, ND, to Morton and Marie (Jorgensen) Mortensen. In 1934 Mary went to St. Paul, MN, to work at the Millcrest Restaurant.

 

On November 29, 1945, Mary Married Svend Jacobsen at Luverne, ND, and together they farmed Svend’s family farm east of Luverne. In 1972 they moved to Hope, ND, where they were caretakers of an apartment complex until health forced them to retire. They later moved to Cooperstown, ND. Svend passed away January 1, 1989.

 

Mary was a past member of Lund Lutheran Church, Luverne Lutheran Church, Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hope, and was a current member of The First Presbyterian Church in Cooperstown.

 

On April 10, 2009, Mary entered the Cooperstown Medical Center and passed away there on September 15, 2009.

 

Mary was known for her love of her family, cooking and baking, crocheting, care giving and sense of humor.   

 

Mary is survived by her son, John (Janet) of Eugene, OR; daughter, Janice (Gary) Johnson of Cooperstown; grandchildren, Cody (Courtney Witteman) of Bismarck, ND, and Casey (Daniel) Triebold of Valley City, ND; and great-grandsons, Konnor and Gavin Triebold.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, infant son, infant daughter, and eleven siblings.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday September 23, at 10:30 in the Bethany Free Lutheran Church in Binford, ND. 

 

Visitation will be held Tuesday from 3:00 till 5:00 in the Quam-Plaisted-Cushman Funeral Home in Cooperstown, ND.

 

Interment will be in the Bethany Cemetery, rural Binford, ND.

 

Sigurd was born July 20, 1913 in Cooperstown, ND the son of John and Andrea (Haver) Amundson.  He grew up and attended rural school near Binford, ND.

 

He married Lillian York June 30, 1935 in Binford, ND. They farmed for several years north of Binford, ND before moving into Binford. He began working for the Northern Pacific Railroad, which merged in 1970 and was known as Burlington Northern. The couple made their home there until 1955 when they moved to Cannon Ball, ND and later to Pingree and Pettibone, ND before returning to Binford, ND in 1967. He continued working for the railroad until his retirement on August 15, 1978,   Lillian died December 12, 1993.

 

Sig continued to make his home in Binford until 1998 when he then became a resident of Park Place Assisted Living in Cooperstown, ND before moving into Golden Acres Manor Nursing Home in Carrington in 2007.  He passed way Friday, September 18, 2009 in the Carrington Health Care Center in Carrington, ND.

 

He is survived by two sons: Marlin “Spike” (Barb) Amundson,  Boise, ID, Reynold “Rey”  ( Arita) Amundson, Mead, WA; a daughter: Deloris (Vernon) Morlock, Carrington, ND; 14-grandchildren, 26-great grandchildren  and 8 great-great grandchildren.

 

Proceeded in death by his parents, wife-Lillian, one brother-Arthur, and one sister-Annie Watne.

NICOLE MARIE WERRE OLSTAD

 

Nicole Marie (Pickle) was born July 1, 1991 in Fargo, ND, the daughter of Cindy (Ricord), Maynard Werre and Robert Olstad.  She grew up and attended school in Hope, ND and graduated in 2009.  She was attending the University of Minnesota Moorhead, majoring in Special Education.  She worked as a lifeguard at the Hope swimming pool.  She enjoyed all sports.

 

She died Saturday, September 12, 2009 from injuries sustained in a car accident near Hope, ND.

 

She is survived by her parents, mother, Cindy Olstad of Galesburg, ND,  fathers, Maynard Werre of Grand Forks, ND and Robert Olstad of Galesburg, ND, brothers, Jacob (Mandy) Olstad of Colgate, ND, Parker Olstad at home, Marcus Werre of Hatton, ND, one nephew/godson Jaxen Olstad Werre of Colgate, ND.
