ALICE OSTENSON

December 19, 1918 — August 30, 2011

ALYCE OSTENSON Alyce Hedstrom was born December 19, 1918 near Aneta, ND, the oldest of seven children born to Art and Ella (Dailey) Hedstrom. She attended the rural schools and graduated from Sharon High School. April 9, 1039 she married Chester Ostenson, rural Sharon. To this union two children were born, Linda and Michael. They farmed in the area for several years, then purchased the meat market/grocery store in Sharon, ND. Alyce assisted Chester in the day to day operation of the store. Later the store was sold and they moved briefly to Fargo, Hatton and then back to Sharon. Chester died February 1, 1999. Alyce continued to reside in an apartment in Sharon. In her active years, Alyce was a wonderful person inside and outside. She was very caring to friends and family and had many talents. Her decorated wedding cakes brought pleasure and fond memories too many couples, her buns were “out of this world”. She baked them without a recipe, from memory, but with the love of her hands. Alyce especially took pride in her personal appearance and always looked beautiful. Even in her later years, when a resident in the nursing home, she wanted to appear well groomed. Her hair was very special, always done up well and she was good at “doing” hair, and assisting others. She loved music and she and Chester spent many hours dancing. Alyce had a special long time girl friend, Gladys Huso. Their entire lives they enjoyed fun laughter, residing next door to each other in Sharon and then in the nursing home. Due to declining health, she moved into Parkview Care Center, March 25, 2003. She leaves behind to mourn her wonderful life; son Michael (Doreen) Ostenson, Billings, MT: daughter, Linda Barenthin, Lakeland, FL; four grandchildren, Sonja, Michael, Trevor and Tasha; two brothers, Alden (June) Hedstrom, Fargo, ND, Robert (Grace) Hedstrom, Cooperstown, ND; two sisters, Eunice Sondreal, ,Grand Forks, ND, Donna Blank, Campbell, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Chester; brother, Arvid; sister, Viola and son-in-law Steve Barenthin. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, September 8, 2011 at 11:00 am in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sharon, ND. Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 7, 2011 from 5:00 till 7:00 in the Quam-Plaisted-Cushman Funeral Home in Finley, ND and one hour before services in the Church.
