ORPHA CUSSONS

October 25, 1925 — June 9, 2012

ORPHA CUSSONS Orpha Cussons, 96, of Cooperstown, ND passed away June 9,2012 at the Griggs County Medical Center. Orpha was born August 25, 1915 in Dazey, ND, to Gladys (Kelly) and Carl Jacobson. She attended school in Dazey and later in Cooperstown where she graduated with the class of 1932. Following graduation she worked as an operator for the Griggs County Telephone Co. She married Barton Cussons on August 25, 1938 in Fargo, ND. In the late fifties she owned and operated a dress shop, ‘Mamselle’ in Cooperstown. She and Barton moved to Turner, Oregon in 1968 while continuing to spend the summers at their North Dakota ranch on the Sheyenne River prior to moving back to Cooperstown in 1995. Orpha was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Presbyterian Ladies Aid , Cooperstown Country Club, PEO, and Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed playing Bridge, Pinochle, board games and solving the daily crossword puzzle. An avid reader, she cherished the local library. Orpha is survived by daughter Diane Olson, Cooperstown; sons Blair, Cooperstown; Lance (Judy), Yakima, WA; son-in-law Milton Olson, Fargo, ND; four grandchildren, Todd Olson, Tokyo, Japan; Tracy Ellingson, Fargo, ND; Aaron Cussons, Scottsdale, AZ; Bryan Cussons, Scottsdale, AZ; six great- grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and several nieces and a nephew. Orpha was preceded in death by her parents, husband Barton, stepfather Bob Sandine, and sisters Elaine Dingman and Avis Holtsberg. Funeral services are being held at the First Presbyterian Church, Cooperstown on Saturday, June 16, 2012 at 10:30 AM In lieu of flowers the family requests any memorials be made to the Cooperstown Cemetery Fund or the Griggs County Library.
