JOHN HALVORSON

July 18, 1927 — August 28, 2012

JOHN HALVORSON John was born July 18, 1927 near Sharon, ND the son of Halvor and Gudrun (Amundson) Halvorson. He grew up and attended grade school near Finley, ND in New Bergan #3 and attended high school in Hope, ND. As a teenager he worked on the family farm helping is father and later farmed on his own. In 1952 he started working for Phillip Midstokke on a farm near Finley. In 1961 John moved to Grand Forks where he worked for Enright Gas Station for many years. He also worked for Tri-Steele in Grand Forks and later for Mayo Manufacturing, Flaat Potato Warehouse and Jerome Krejce all of East Grand Forks until his retirement. In 2002 he moved to Hatton, ND and in April of 2004 he became a resident of the Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, ND, he passed away there August 28, 2012. John loved the life of farming. He enjoyed being with family during holidays and loved deer hunting with Earl, his grandsons and nephews. He always had a smile on his face and was quite the jokester. He loved playing pinochle or any kind of card games, bingo and pull tabs. John loved his Packers and teasing his grandkids about the Vikings. He never missed a baptism, confirmation, graduation, birthday or wedding and was a Life member of the Eagles. He is survived by his sister, Geraldine Jacobson, Hope, ND; step children, Shirley (Earl) Hegg, Larry (Kim) Vigen, Wanda Miske, Laura Vigen and Dorothy Olson; nephews Dr. Severt Jacobson, Harlan Jacobson; niece Sonia Sjurseth; 21 step grandchildren, many step great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents; companion Hazel Vigen; sister Burnette; nephew Darrell Jacobson; step children Arleigh and Charles Vigen. Funeral Services will be Saturday, September 1, 2012 at 11:00 am in the Ostervold Lutheran Church, rural Finley, ND. Visitation will be Friday, August 31, 2012 from 5:00 till 7:00 pm in the Church and one hour before services in the Church. A Prayer Service will be Friday at 7:00 in the Church. Interment will be in the Sharon Cemetery, Sharon, ND.
