RUBEN ESLINGER

November 24, 1921 — February 13, 2015

RUBEN ESLINGER Ruben Eslinger, 93 of Hannaford, ND, passed away peacefully at his farm on February 13, 2015. Ruben Eslinger was born November 24, 1921 to David and Lydia (Hofer) Eslinger in Cole Harbor, ND. He lived and later started school in Cole Harbor, ND. In 1942 he moved with his family to Ackley, MN. He worked at a lumber jack in the woods of Minnesota. The family later moved to a farm west of Hannaford, ND. Ruben worked several jobs before being drafted into the Army in 1942 with his brother Emil. He trained in Colorado and Texas and fought in WWII. He served in the 10th Mountain Division in Italy. He was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart along with several other medals. He was Honorably Discharged on December 5, 1945. He returned home to the family farm near Hannaford, ND. He worked several jobs before working with his father and brother moving buildings. He remained on the family farm until his death. Ruben was a talented Accordion player but never took a lesson in his life. He played with his brothers band for many occasions and events. Ruben loved to hunt, fish, and family gatherings at the farm. He enjoyed the company of his nieces and nephews over the years always taking one or two with him in the truck when hauling grain to town. He was a loving uncle. Ruben is survived by five brothers, Art Eslinger, Elmer(Marcia) Eslinger of Cooperstown, ND, Bernhard Eslinger, Alvin (Nadine) Eslinger, Albert Eslinger all of Hannaford, ND. Three sisters Hilda Palm, Hannaford, ND, Leona Severson, Alma, WA, Lorraine Bergum, Hannaford, ND and over 30 nieces and nephews. Ruben was preceded in death by his parents David and Lydia Eslinger, brothers Emil and Lloyd Eslinger, niece Lorna Rondesvedt, nephews Rodney Palm and Roland Burgum. Funeral services will be Thursday, February 19, 2015 at 11:00 am in the Faith Lutheran Church, Hannaford, ND. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 till 8:00 in the Quam-Plaisted-Cushman Funeral Home and one hour before services in the Church. A Prayer Service will be on Wednesday at 8:00 in the Funeral Home. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens at2:30 Thursday in Jamestown, ND.
