STEVEN GREGOR

August 8, 1948 — January 21, 2017

MR. STEVEN GORDON GREGOR, 68, passed away peacefully with his wife by his side and was commended into God’s hands early Saturday morning January 21, 2017. Steve was born on August 8, 1948 in Fargo, ND, to Howard and Leona (Kennedy) Gregor, who both predeceased him. Steve wore many hats in life, including All-State collegiate athlete, teacher/coach, college football referee, businessman, and most importantly family man. After graduating from Finley HS in 1966, Steve attended and played basketball at The University of North Dakota and then Moorhead State College, graduating in 1970. He married his childhood sweetheart, Jeanne Ilene Vosseteig on August 23, 1969. After college they lived in North Dakota, both teaching and coaching, before settling in Fargo, where Steve accepted a position with General Motors. Steve worked at GMAC for thirty years before retiring in 2004, and the job ultimately took Steve and his family to El Paso, where he became an “honorary Texan”. Steve was the consummate husband and father with a passion for playing and teaching sports to his sons. Over the years, he became an avid jogger who could be seen mornings and evenings running up and down the mountains of El Paso, or through the oceans of North Dakota fields….always waiving to every passing car and neighbor. When diagnosed with cancer in 2009, he fought through the illness, ultimately defeating the disease. The treatments however, led to a secondary bone marrow diagnosis in 2016, but through it all, Steve remained iron-willed. Despite the debilitating nature of the illness, he courageously never complained about his circumstances. The over-riding pride and joy of Steve’s life was his family. He often was the life of the party and having his family and friends around him was his greatest pleasure in life. Steve is survived by his wife of 48 years, Jeanne; his two sons, Nicholas (Beth) and Thomas(Jackie); and his five grandchildren Jack, Drew, Olivia, Stella, and Nora. Steve’s leadership and loving, generous soul will be sadly missed by all those who knew him. A visitation is scheduled from five to seven o'clock in the evening on Monday, January 30, with a prayer service immediately following at St. Olaf’s Catholic Church in Finley, North Dakota. The Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at ten thirty in the morning on Tuesday, January 31, also at St. Olaf’s Catholic Church, where Father Dale Kinzler will serve as celebrant. Immediately following, all are invited to join the family in a reception to be held in the church basement.
