GERALD O. ENGEN

Gerald O. Engen, 89 of Cushing, MN (formerly Finley, ND) passed away Sunday, March 19, 2017 at Lakewood Health System, Staples, MN. He was born on the family farm in Finley on June 11, 1927 to Fritz and Caroline (Dokken) Engen. Jerry spent his life farming the family farm in Steele County, ND. In 1946 he entered the US Army where he spent most of his time on Sand Island, HI. After completing his military service he married Jean Ostlie on June 15, 1952 in Northwood, ND. They were married for 50 years before she passed away in 2002. They lived on the farm and in Finley, ND until 2001 when they moved to Fargo. In 2002, Jerry moved to Sauk Centre, MN and then to the Staples, MN area. Grandpa Jerry will be remembered with love by all for his unending kindness and patience with everyone he met. He is survived by a son, Greg (Sherree) Engen of Cushing, MN, and daughter Deb (David) Vosseteig of West Fargo, ND and his six grandchildren, Britanni Engen, Bryanne (Will) Horn, Brooke (Everett) Jordan, Jenna, Erik (Kimmy) and Sarah Vosseteig. Extra special in his life for the last 4 ½ years, were his five great grandchildren, Sam and Anne Horn, Truman and Fritz Jordan and Henrik Vosseteig. He is also survived by a sister, Julie (Peter) Oberholtzer of Altoona, WI and numerous nieces and nephews. Jerry is preceded in death by his wife, Jean, his parents, his sister Freda Sletten, and his great granddaughter Addison. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, March 27 at 11:00 am at the Finley Lutheran Church, Finley, ND.
