MARTIN W. WEST

MARTIN W. WEST Martin Wayne West, 65, passed away September 16th, 2017 at the VA Hospital in Fargo with his loving wife Cindy by his side. He fought a courageous battle with cancer. Marty was born in Fargo North Dakota on May 6, 1952 to William and Barbara ( Bullis) West. He grew up and attended school in Tower City, Pillsbury, Oriska and Hope. He graduated from Hope High School in 1970. In December of 1971 Marty married Georgeann Holm. Together they had two children Anne and William. He enlisted in the Army in 1972 and was Honorably Discharged in 1974. Marty enlisted in the Navy in 1982. He retired from the Navy in 1998. He received many awards including Sailor of the year in 1988. He received many achievement medals including the National Defense Medal, Good Conduct medals and numerous letters of appreciation and commendations. After retiring from the Navy he moved back to Hope, North Dakota. He was employed by Fettings Bakery, La Rinascente Pasta, and Hope Electric before his retirement. Marty married Cynthia Willert Jess on February 11, 2005. Marty was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, West Fargo American Legion and the Hope American Legion. Marty is survived by his wife Cindy, his mother Barbara, and brother David(Jody) West, daughter Anne (Steve) Williams, son William (April) West, stepdaughter Heather (Tab) Jacobsen, stepsons, Nathan (Heidi) Jess, Nicholas (Angela) Jess. Grandchildren- Brady Jacobsen, Bailey Mortensen (Nic Pfeifer), Micah Jones, Bo Jacobsen, Evette Jess, Henry Jess, James Jess. Brother in laws, Darryl (Kathy) Willert, Steven( Susan) Willert, and Rick Willert (Linda Bryant). He was preceded in death by his father Bill, brothers William, Steven and Don. Marty was a kind and generous man. He was fun to be around and always willing to help others. He will be greatly missed. Visitation will be Thursday, September 21, 2017 from 1:00 – 2:30 followed by a Funeral at 2:30 at the Hope American Legion Hall, Hope, ND. Interment will be in the Hope Cemetery, Hope, ND.
