BETTY J. SCHWARTZ Betty J. Schwartz, 81 of Grand Forks, ND formerly of Finley, ND passed away Sunday, November 21, 2010 in Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND. Betty Jane Jacobson was born February 7, 1929 in Drake, ND the daughter of Peter and Elizabeth (Seagren) Jacobson. As a small child she moved with her family to Onamia, MN where she grew up and attended school. She married Stanley Vernon Grotte April 19, 1948 in Fargo, ND. The couple farmed in the Hope, ND area. Stanley died June 14, 1969. Betty moved into Finley, ND. She married John B. Schwartz November 18, 1972 in Ada, MN. The couple made their home in Finley, ND until 1976 when they began wintering in Mesa, AZ and summering in Finley. Betty moved to Grand Forks in 2005. John died December 27, 2007. Betty continued to make her home in Grand Forks. Betty enjoyed doing bead work, painting, sewing, needle work, reading, working on her computer and volunteered at the Valley Memorial Homes and the Grand Forks Senior Citizens Center. She is survived by two daughters, Judy (J.J.) Boyd, Bonafey, FL, Nancy (Richard) Schulz, East Grand Forks, MN; two sons, Steven (Lorie) Grotte, Grand Forks, ND, Brian (Tammy) Grotte, Williston, ND; sister, Dorothy Moore, Hope, ND; brother, Earl Jacobson, Onamia, MN; five grandchildren and eight grandchildren. Betty was preceded in death by her parents Peter and Elizabeth; son Allen Grotte; brothers, Albert and Alfred; sisters, Esther, Mildred, Irene and Myrtle. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, November 27, 2010 at 11:00 am in the Finley Lutheran Church, Finley, ND. Visitation will be held Friday, November 26, 2010 from 5:00 pm till 7:00 pm in the Quam-Plaisted-Cushman Funeral Home in Finley, ND. Interment will be in the Pickert Cemetery, Pickert, ND. In lieu of flowers please give a memorial gift to the Renal Dialysis Unit at Altru Health Foundation in memory Betty Schwartz.
