In Loving Memory of Carol Griffey

Carol Griffey, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, went home to be with her Lord on May 9, 2025. At the time of her passing she resided at Edgewood Vista, Fargo, ND. She was born on March 11, 1940, in New Rockford, North Dakota, to Howard and Florence Topp of Juanita, ND.

Carol’s early years were spent in Juanita, where she attended grade school before graduating from high school in Carrington, ND. She pursued further education at Dakota Business College in Fargo, ND, preparing herself for a life of dedication and service.

On July 24, 1959, Carol married Gaylon Griffey at the Juanita Methodist Church. They were blessed with two children: Chad and JoRae. Together, they built a life on their farm near Binford, ND, before moving into town in 1978 while continuing to nurture their farming interests. Carol found her professional calling at the Binford Bank, where she worked from 1971 until her retirement as Branch Manager in 2005. She was passionate about her work, finding joy in helping others, particularly the elderly, with their financial needs. After her retirement, she moved to Fargo, ND to be near family.

Carol’s life was one of service, both professionally and within her community. She was a charter member of the local homemakers club, served as treasurer for the Binford Economic Development committee for 11 years, and contributed to the Binford Historical Society. She also lent her expertise to the loan boards of Griggs and Steele counties. Her faith was central to her life, and she was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Binford.

Carol had a love for life’s simple yet profound joys. She cultivated beautiful flower gardens, cherished camping and fishing trips at Sibley, ND, and enjoyed creating heartfelt greeting cards. Her family was the cornerstone of her happiness, and she treasured every moment spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Though she humbly claimed she didn’t enjoy cooking, her dishes were masterpieces worthy of magazine covers, delighting all who gathered at her table.

Carol will be remembered for her unwavering faith in Jesus, her boundless patience, love, kindness, and grace. She faced life’s trials and triumphs with quiet strength, leaving a legacy of warmth and compassion.

She is survived by her son, Chad Griffey (Debra Ann) of Moorhead, MN; her grandchildren, Josiah Griffey (Jenna) of Fargo, ND, and Kia Bloom (Seth Bloom) of Fargo, ND; her great-grandchildren, Henry Bloom and JoRae Bloom of Fargo, ND; her sister, Phyllis Schlittenhart of Bismarck, ND; her foster daughter, Denise Henderson of Jamestown, ND; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Florence Topp; her husband, Gaylon; her daughter, JoRae; three brothers-in-law, Glenn Slavik, Thor Bollingberg, and Robert Schlittenhart; two sisters-in-law, Janice Lorentzson and LaMon Bollingberg; and one nephew, Craig Lorentzson.

Carol’s life was a testament to faith, love, and perseverance. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing her.

Funeral Services will Friday, May 16, 2025 at 10:30 am in the Quam-Plaisted-Cushman Funeral Home, Cooperstown, ND, visitation will be one hour before. Interment will follow in the Binford Cemetery, rural Binford. Lunch will be at Trinity Lutheran Church, Binford, ND following the interment.
