CAROLYN LUNDE

July 22, 1933 — September 14, 2022

Carolyn Lunde

Carolyn Lunde, Cooperstown, North Dakota, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on September 14, 2022 at the Griggs County Care Center.

Carolyn Vigesaa Lunde was born on the family farm in rural Cooperstown on July 22nd, 1933, to Lawrence and Connie Vigesaa. She was the only daughter with three older and three younger brothers.

Carolyn attended country school for eight years and then continued her education at Oak Grove Lutheran High School in Fargo. There, she was an active student, taking piano and organ lessons, singing in the school choir, participating in the annual choir tours, making many life-long friends, and graduating in 1952.

In 1953 she married the love of her life, David Lunde, and together they raised four children. As a hard-working, devoted mother caring for the children, Carolyn made many a meal and excelled at cooking and baking.

Travel was important to Carolyn and David. They, and their family, made a number of trips around the USA and Canada and also traveled to Europe including several trips to extended family in Norway. They even had an adventurous time in Africa where their son and daughter-in-law were missionaries.

Carolyn was a generous, selfless individual, very often putting others’ needs before her own. Her Christian faith was strong and she was active in her home church, Zion Lutheran, where she played piano and organ for many years. Music was an essential part of Carolyn’s life. She was also very gracious and hospitable, hosting many dinner and birthday parties with lively conversation and great food including homemade ice cream, a family favorite. Harvest time on the farm meant many a meal transported out to the field where the pickup tailgate opened to a fine spread!

Carolyn loved growing flowers, reading, bird-watching, and searching for and collecting Indian artifacts in the river valley. She relished the beauty of the prairie, the Sheyenne valley she lived in, and the vast prairie sky. She instilled many of her interests and passions in her children and grandchildren. Speaking of grandchildren, Carolyn dearly loved all thirteen, playing with them as kids and attending their sporting events, concerts, and performances when they were older.

Upon retirement Carolyn and David continued to live on the farm, helping out in the operation, but also enjoyed their retirement by spending part of the winter months on the Pacific coast of Mexico where they made many friends, enjoyed the ocean, beaches, and nearby mountains.

With Carolyn’s health in decline, she entered the Griggs County Care Center in March 2021. Her husband, David, faithfully visited her nearly every day.  On September 14, 2022, Carolyn died peacefully surrounded by her family.

Carolyn is survived by her husband David, Cooperstown, sons Keven and Nathan (Marybeth), Cooperstown,  daughters Barb (Mike) Schumacher of Fargo, and Tanya (Jeff) Schaumann of Moorhead, MN,  thirteen grandchildren, five great grandchildren, two brothers, Larry (Delores) Billings, MT, and Peter (Lynne) Vigesaa of Tracy, CA, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers, Ted, George, David, and Torkel.

The family expresses their appreciation for the loving care given by the staff at the Griggs County Care Center in Cooperstown.
