David married Agnes Berge of Dazey on December 18, 1965. The union was blessed with six children: Davene, Tim, Matt, Disa, Daniel and DeAnna. Together they raised her daughter, Jessica, and after moving to Darra's home state of Oklahoma, they welcomed David's fourth son, Adam.
David lived in Oklahoma for nearly 30 years. In his later years, he enjoyed coming home in the summer to help with the wheat and soybean harvest. David moved permanently to Hope, ND in 2017, where he remained until his passing.
