Delores Lou Johnson
Delores Berg Johnson was born on August 20, 1931, to Enoch and Josephine (Sampson) Berg in rural Steele County. Due to her mother’s illness, Delores was raised by her aunt, Lena Sampson, on the “Sampson Farm”. She was baptized in the Ostervold Church and confirmed in the Finley Lutheran Church. Delores worked at Cenex as a bookkeeper for 41 years.
Delores married Ervin Grunseth in 1954 and he passed away in 1993. In October 1996, she married Roland Johnson of Hannaford, ND. At that time she became stepmother to four children, five step grandchildren and five step great-grandchildren. She stepped into that role graciously and with love and will be sorely missed. She and Roland lived their nearly 30 years of married life in Finley, but wintered in Harlingen, TX, for 23 of those years. They loved to golf, bowl, dance, play cards and travel, and she loved her cats. Delores died on March 31, 2026, in the Griggs County Care Center surrounded by loved ones.
Delores is survived by her husband Roland, brother-in-law; Everardo Deltoro of Orono, MN. sisters-in-law Esther Neuman of California and Phyllis Johnson of Fargo, stepchildren Connie (Calvin) Eslinger of Hannaford, Dean Johnson of Cooperstown, Gail Joramo of West Fargo and Gwen West of Hannaford. She also leaves behind five grandchildren: Justin, Kody, Davis and Josh Eslinger and Emily Bivens, and five step grandchildren: Amelia, Violet, Abigail, Jude and Eleanor.
Delores was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters: June (Ervin) Harshman, Eldris (Walter) Wilkens, Geraldine Berg, and Florence Deltoro, five brothers-in-law: Ernest (Della) Johnson, Willard Johnson, Arthur (Florence) Johnson, Ron Neuman and Richard Johnson, and two stepsons, Steven Joramo and Norman West.
