Gordon L. Overby
Gordon L. Overby passed away September 5, 2025, at the Griggs County Care Center in Cooperstown, ND. He had just turned 97 in August.
Gordon was born to Chris and Pearl Overby on August 19, 1928, at home on the family farmstead near Binford, ND. He attended the country school west of Binford. He began his farming career at an early age which included dairy, beef, and dry-land farming. He enjoyed all aspects of farming, especially his cows. This was his life's work. Gordon married Myrtle Omdal on September 22, 1951, and they continued to live on the farm when Chris and Pearl moved into Binford. They raised their five boys on this farm which became the favorite visiting place of each grandchild. Gordon and Myrtle regularly received visitors and were known for their hospitality.
When Myrtle’s health started to fail, he lovingly cared for her at home until she moved to the Griggs County Care Center. Gordon also spent his last couple of years in the Griggs County Care Center. The family sincerely appreciated all the care and kindness the Care Center provided to Gordon.
Gordon enjoyed playing piano and guitar and singing. When his sight no longer allowed him to read, he enjoyed listening to music, especially hymns. Gordon’s love for the Lord and the scriptures was a steady guide for each step he took in this earthly life.
Gordon is survived by his five sons: Lyle (Roberta) of Jamestown, ND; Rick (Ann) of West Fargo, ND; Craig (Kathleen) of Buhl, ID; Miles (Lana) of Rapid City, SD; and Glenn (Judi) of Kennewick, WA. His surviving relatives also include his brother Elton (Sylvia) of Plentywood, MT, and his sister Clarice (Richard) Kadry of Fargo, ND. Additionally, he leaves behind 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews.
Gordon was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Myrtle; his brother, Kenneth Overby, and Kenneth’s wife, Alma; his sister, Carol, and her husband, Hank Abrahamson; his sister-in-law, Audrey Overby; and one great-granddaughter, Ivy Nelson.
