IVAR HAALAND

Ivar Haaland age 70 of Moorhead, MN passed away peacefully in his home with Hospice of the Red River Valley surrounded by his family on February 1, 2022.

Ivar was born on April 29, 1951 in Vats, Norway to his parents Paula Skadberg and Irwin Haaland.  On March 11, 1960 Ivar along with his parents and siblings immigrated to America where they settled in Cooperstown, ND.  Ivar went to work for Kaare and Marit Romsaas of Hannaford, ND on their farm at about the age of 11 and continued working there until he graduated.  Ivar graduated from Cooperstown High School in 1972. 

He was the last drafted in Griggs County in 1971 and served from 1972 to 1975.  He was originally stationed in Vietnam and shortly thereafter was transferred to Germany.  Ivar was a Track Vehicle Serviceman during his service.  In 1975, Ivar went to work for Loder Implement and continued until the spring of 2000.  He then went to work for General Equipment and Supplies until he was disabled in 2007.

Ivar married Karen Schultz of West Fargo on May 6, 2000 in Cooperstown, ND with their daughter Bonnie.  They moved to West Fargo, ND in 2001.  In 2018, Ivar and Karen moved to Moorhead, MN. 

Ivar is survived in death by his wife Karen of 21 years, Daughter Bonnie (Chris) Brewer, Grandchildren Aaliyah, Andrew, Alysen and Adysen all of West Fargo, ND,  Siblings Kjell (Charlotte) Haaland,  Cooperstown, ND, Magnus (Linda) Haaland, Cooperstown, ND, Andreas (Gail) Haaland, Cooperstown, ND, Torill (Ray) Wasness, West Fargo, ND and Gladys Vervalin of West Fargo, ND.  He is also survived by his Nieces and Nephews, Great Nieces and Great Nephews and Great-Great Nieces and Great-Great Nephews. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, Brother Arne Haaland, sister-in-law Diana Haaland, brother-in-law Mark VerValin, nephew Roy Haaland, great niece Cassidy Joy Andel, and step father Richard Ellefson.  

Honorary pall bears are his nieces and nephews and the Cooperstown Fire Department.

A Prayer Service will be Friday, February 11, 2022 at 7:00 pm in the Quam-Plaisted-Cushman Funeral Home, Cooperstown, ND.  A Memorial Service will be Saturday, February 12, 2022 at 10:30 am in the Trinity Lutheran Church, Cooperstown, ND.  Interment will be in the spring in the Cooperstown Cemetery with full military honors.
