JOYCE L. TAXDAHL

Joyce Lorraine Taxdahl, 90, formerly from Sutton, ND, passed away peacefully in the company of family at Saint Catherine’s Nursing Home, May14, 2026.

Her celebration of life will be held on Friday, May 22, 2026, at 2 pm, with visitation starting at 1pm, at Zion Luther Church 10367 4th St NE, Binford, ND.

Joyce was born November 14, 1935, to Carl and Hazel (Martin) Leininger. She grew up on the family farm north of Sutton and attended the country school, later attending Glenfield High School.

In 1951 she met her love, Jack, while going for ice cream with her cousin in Sutton. They were married on November 28,1952 and were "blessed" with three children: Renee, Michael, and Kristie.

They made their home in Cooperstown where Joyce worked at the dime store and helped Jack detailing cars. In 1968 they moved to Sutton, becoming the owners of J & J Grocery and ran the business until semi-retirement in 1986.

During these years she was involved with church activities including the choir, Luther League leader, and a member of the ladies guild/LWML. Throughout the years she helped with numerous events, detailing hundreds of vehicles to sell, gardening, and helping in the potato field, all while working 6 days a week at the grocery store. In retirement she was a member of the Sutton Senior Citizen Center as secretary/treasurer and went to many flee markets to set up their antiques.

She always thoroughly enjoyed time with family, playing cards, having tea/coffee, being busy outdoors, attending to her plants and flowers and visiting. She loved babies and she loved red lipstick. There wasn’t a baby in all of her family that didn’t have red lip marks on their cheeks at some point.

Joyce is survived by her children: Renee LaRocque, Michael (Jody) Taxdahl, Kristie (Corey) Theede. Grandchildren: Anthony (Sam) Erman, Shalon (Bruce) Storhoff, LaReina, Toshika, Heidi, Jordan (Veronica), Tyler Taxdahl, Brady (Kaylee) Theede, Cassidy (Nate) Lick. 16 Great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson. Siblings Larry Leininger, Jean McGee, Cynthia (Lowell) Thompson, Mary Jane (Ed ) Houston, Roger (Debbie) Leininger, and Nancy (Wayne) Morris.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, parents Carl and Hazel and sister, Katherin.

Funeral Services will be Friday, May 22, 2026 at 2:00 pm in Zion Lutheran Church, rural Binford, ND, visitation will be one hour before service. Interment will be in the Church Cemetery.
