LANE GILBERTSON
Lane Devin Gilbertson was born October 4, 2006 to Lee and Judy. After a 4-year battle with cancer he passed away April 1, 2024.
Lane was loved immensely by his family and particularly doted on by his 2 sisters, Quin and Sydney. Quin at 8 years older was like a little mother hen to him from birth on and Sydney at 4 years older would scrap with him at the drop of a hat but fight for him if she ever thought somebody wasn’t treating him right.
Lane had the best sense of humor and smiled easily even in the middle of some pretty tough times. He was so strong throughout his battle with cancer and all of the challenges the brain tumor threw at him but had the most sensitive soul and always tried to protect his family from what he was going through.
Lane was a good mixture of super social and enjoying time with family and friends to being left alone gaming and not wanting to leave his room. Lane loved to play all types of games – video games (especially Mario Party with anybody willing), board games and card games. Although he won most of the time, he let you know it when he lost! Lane loved going to Red Willow Lake in the summer – fishing from the dock, floating in the water and tubing with Bryce and Mason. Lane even tried wake boarding and you could hear him yell across the lake, “I’ve trained for this!” He enjoyed the golf cart with grocery runs, hide and seek and water hose fights. Lane felt free and independent when driving his golf cart.
During his recovery after surgery/radiation and during chemo the first time around, Lane developed the best relationship with his Occupational Therapist Megan Dooley. He told her she needed to come visit him so she made plans to come on the 1st. Lane said that’s not soon enough, you need to come sooner. And so she did.
Lane loved his family and never ended a conversation without saying I love you. He will be missed by his mother Judy (Clay) Monson, his father Lee (Renae) Gilbertson, his sisters Quin and Sydney Gilbertson, his 4 step brothers Drew (Megan & Emryn), Ethan and Bryce Utke and Jarin Monson and his step sister Briley Monson as well as grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 4, 2024 at from 12:00 pm till 2:00 pm in the Bethany Free Lutheran Church, Binford, ND followed by a Memorial Service at 2:00 pm. Interment will be at 5:00 pm in the Sheyenne Valley Cemetery, rural Finley, ND.
