LINDA JANE HAALAND

October 13, 1949 — March 2, 2024

COOPERSTOWN, ND

Linda Jane (Sandvik) Haaland passed away peacefully March 2nd at the Dakota Regional Care Center with her husband, Magnus, by her side.

Linda was born October 13, 1949 in Sharon, North Dakota to Arne and Lorraine (Smith) Sandvik.  She attended the Shepard Country School and the Cooperstown School, graduating in 1968.   While riding the school bus she met the love of her life Magnus Haaland.

On April 17, 1970, Linda married her husband of 54 years, Magnus Haaland.  They lived on a rural farm in the Sheyenne River valley until they moved their forever home into Cooperstown in 1975.

Linda welcomed everyone into her home and the coffee pot was always on. Her greatest joys in life were her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed her family and friends at their lake cabin, spending time with her sisters and brothers, country drives, and day trips out of town shopping. Linda devoted her time to caring for her husband, her family, her parents and her brother. She would see an elderly walking for groceries, stop, take them to the store, wait, and take them home.

Her hobbies were cross stitching and making Christmas stockings. She enjoyed looking at photos, country living magazines, and paging through recipe books.  Family favorites were scalloped potatoes, potato salad, and chocolate pie.

Linda had a daycare in her home when her own were small.  She would be sitting in a rocker holding a little one and smiling at the kids playing with toys all over the floor.

Linda and Magnus managed the New Peoples store in Luverne, ND until it later closed. She then worked alongside her friends at the Coachman Inn. They were a close group who enjoyed laughter and time with each other.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents Arne and Lorraine Sandvik, her sisters Diana Haaland and Janice Fritel, brother Wayne Sandvik, brother-in-laws Arne Haaland, Ivar Haaland, Mark VerValin, nephew Craig Sandvik, and great niece Cassidy Andel.

She is survived by her husband Magnus; daughter Tomina (Mike) Andel of Valley City, ND and her son Luke (Leslie) Haaland of Bismarck, ND. Her grandchildren Garrett (Brittney) Andel of Tower City, ND, Alex (Amanda) Andel of Tower City, ND, Paula (Derek) Bendickson of Mandan, ND, Ty Haaland of New Salem, ND, and Tate and Hayden Haaland of Bismarck, ND.
