LINDA LOGE
Linda Lee Loge was born on September 9, 1942, in Bismarck, North Dakota, to Allen and Leonora Wilton.
When Linda was just two months old, her family moved from North Dakota to Seattle, Washington. Her father, Allen, worked wherever work was available. For a time, the family lived on her maternal grandparents’ apple orchard before eventually settling in Auburn, Washington, once Linda was old enough to begin school.
Linda married Norman Haugen in 1960. They moved to the family farm in Hannaford, North Dakota, where their daughter, Lori, was born on September 12, 1962. The family later returned to Auburn, Washington, when Norman was offered a position at Boeing. Their son, Kevin, was born on February 16, 1967. The family then moved back to Hannaford, where Norman continued farming. During this time, Linda was deeply involved in farm life—helping with chores and preparing meals for the farm crew. She also worked for many years as a cook at the local bowling alley, where she made the best burgers.
In 1974, Linda, Lori, and Kevin moved to Cooperstown, North Dakota, where Linda worked for the Westfall family for a period of time.
Linda later married Laurence Loge on November 7, 1975, and together they made their home in Cooperstown. Their son, Scott, was born August 30, 1978. Linda’s love of baking led her to a position in the bakery department at Severson’s SuperValu, where she worked for nine years. She was later hired as a cook at Griggs County Hospital, where she dedicated 33 years of service before retiring.
Mom—also known as “Grandma Linda”—had many passions, but none more important than her family. New Year’s Eve Rook parties were a cherished tradition. Laurence’s brothers and brother-in-law taught Kevin, Scott, and Lori the true meaning of a “poker face.” Her family continues the card game Rook, Dominos, Phase 10 as well as Cribbage with each gathering. She showed her love through food, games and time spent together. She loved baking, cooking and tending her garden, where she proudly grew, canned and froze her produce. She passed those skills, and that love, on to her children and grandchildren.
Her outgoing social skills were evident as she was always on the go. She cherished her coffee group of friends which supported each other with conversations, support and help as needed. The quilting group at Trinity Church was also a passion as she sewed for many years. More than once, her circle of friends would also find their way to the casino for a night of fun.
Above all, she taught her family the values of love, caring for one another and others, forgiveness, a strong work ethic and, of course, cooking.
Linda is survived by her daughter Lori (Doug) Pine River, MN and son Scott (Jodi) Cooperstown ND; Grandchildren Randy (Danielle), Tami (Tyler), Tristin (Jack), Emma (Brady), Kaylie (Trevor), Natalie (Mark), Molly (Austin), Tyson and Tatum; Great Grandchildren Harper and Wrenley; Brothers Danny (Vicki) and Marshall; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Linda was preceded in death by her mother, Leonora Soyejima; stepfather, William Soyejima; father, Allen Wilton; husbands Norman Haugen and Laurence Loge; brothers, LeRoy and Gary; sister, Kathy; and her son, Kevin and great grandson Rhen.
