MAGNUS HAALAND
Magnus Haaland 75, Cooperstown, ND, passed away peacefully July 6th at the Griggs County Care Center with his family by his side.
Magnus was born April 9th, 1949, in Sola, Norway. On March 11, 1960, Magnus along with his family immigrated to America where they settled in Cooperstown, ND. He attended country school in Griggs County, ND. While riding the school bus he met the love of his life Linda Sandvik.
On April 17th, 1970, Magnus married his wife of 54 years, Linda Haaland. They lived on a rural farm in the Sheyenne River bottom, until they moved their forever home into Cooperstown in 1975.
Magnus worked on the Lunde and Marson farms, Melroe Bobcat, and the Cooperstown Farmers Elevator as the “2nd Man” as he would say. Magnus enjoyed his job at the elevator, missing it after he became ill. Magnus and Linda also opened the New People store in Luverne, ND until it later closed
Magnus was a man of many hobbies. He enjoyed Hunting, fishing, wood working, mechanical work, making deer horn lamps and plaques, his convertible, growing strawberries and apples, hosting Super Bowl parties, drives in the river bottom, making kumla and deer sausage, his lake cabin, watching his grandkids in their activities and most of all sweet treats. He was always doing something with his friends that he held so dear. His color choice for a tractor was Red.
On November 4th, 1991, Magnus started his long battle for a heart transplant. He received the donor heart on January 17th, 2010, and was given a second chance at life. He took advantage of that opportunity and blessed his family with his knowledge and love until his passing. He remained in good spirits while he doctored so far away. We often teased him that he went on vacation to Mayo.
Magnus was preceded in death by his wife, Linda, his parents Irwin and Paula Haaland (Richard Ellefson), his brothers Arne and Ivar Haaland, sisters in law Diana Haaland, Janice Fritel and Sharon Haaland, brothers-in-law Wayne Sandvik and Mark VerValin, nephew Roy Haaland and Craig Sandvik, great niece Cassidy Andel.
He is survived by daughter Tomina (Mike) Andel of Valley City, ND and Son Luke (Leslie) Haaland of Bismarck, ND. 6 grandchildren Garrett (Brittney) Andel, Alex (Amanda) Andel, Paula (Derek) Bendickson, Ty, Tate & Hayden Haaland. 4 great grandchildren Kasen, Korbin and Kal (Alex) Andel and Briggs (Paula) Bendickson, Siblings; Kjell ( Charlotte), Andy (Gail) Cooperstown, ND, Torill (Ray) Wasness, Gladys VerValin, West Fargo, ND.
