MILES BRAKKE

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA

 

Miles Brakke of Huntington Beach, California died on November 19, 2022. Miles was born on December 11, 1927, to Helmer and Minnie [Fredrikson] Brakke. He grew up on a farm between Aneta and Sharon, North Dakota. He graduated from Sharon High School in 1945.

He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Tokyo, Japan with the post war occupying forces. He graduated from Mayville State Teacher’s College where he was an all-conference football player and varsity basketball player. He taught at Grenora and Langdon, North Dakota. He interrupted his teaching career to get a master’s degree from the University of North Dakota. Miles moved to the Los Angeles area in the late 1950s and continued his teaching career there. He retired as a middle school principal in the Anaheim Union High School District. After retirement he continued to work part time for the school district managing a program which introduced students to jobs that did not require a college degree.

In 1960 he married Loraine Karren. Miles adopted her two children, Dale and Darryl. Together they had  two children, Karren and Robert.

After his retirement he spent happy years with his longtime companion and wife Marcie Kloster Kluver. They enjoyed several trips to foreign countries. In more recent years they spent many weekends at their mountain cabin. Miles was a committed walker. Up until recent years he walked several miles every day.

Miles was predeceased by his parents; stepmother, Aline Snortland Brakke; siblings Conrad, Thomas, and Shirley Byrnes; ex-wife, Loraine; and son, Dale.

He is survived by his wife, Marcie; his children, Darryl [Cindy] Brakke, Karren Brakke, and Robert [Sara] Brakke and five grandchildren, Kourtney, Kameron and Kyle Karson and Bennett and Hudson Brakke. He is also survived by Marcie’s children, David [Jenny] Kluver, Johnathon [Pam] Kluver and Anne [John] Pardoen.

There will be a 2:00 pm service on May 19, 2023, at Sundahl Lutheran Church, Aneta, North Dakota. Burial will be at Silent Hill Cemetery near Aneta.
