ROBERT (BOB) THOMPSON

Robert (Bob) Dean Thompson, 83, peacefully passed away November 15^th 2023.

Bob was born October 13^th, 1940 in Drayton, North Dakota. Bob grew up in Minnesota attending school at Stephen, graduating in 1958.  He enlisted in the Army after high school, during this time, he was united in marriage to Marlys Deschene on February 24^th, 1959.  They had 4 daughters, Renee, Julie, Kimberly, and Sherry.  They moved around after he was honorably discharged from the Army but later settled in Finley, North Dakota.

Bob and his good friend Richard Haroldson took a huge leap of faith and started H&T Cable which brought cable TV to Finley and other surrounding towns.  Soon after, Marlys and Bob owned the bowling alley for many years. 

Bob worked for Ottertail his whole career, retiring in 1999.  After retirement, Bob and Marlys spent their winters in Lake Havasu, AZ.  When he was home in Finley, he would spend time in his shop tinkering with small projects, or cruising around in his ranger.  His brothers-in-law would come to visit and they would do fishing trips to different locations.

Bob enjoyed golfing, watching sports, playing cards and watching FOX News.  If you wanted to find Bob, your best guess would be at any surrounding golf course.  Bob loved being a grandpa, he had 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.  He loved to attend his grandkids sporting events, you would often hear him bragging to others about the latest basketball, volleyball, soccer, baseball, or softball game he had attended. 

Bob is survived by his daughters; Renee (Brian) Lyste, Finley, ND; Kimberly (Jerry) Hashbarger, Hope, ND; Sherry (Jeff) Jacobson, Finley, ND.  Grandchildren; Matthew (Tonya) Strand; Megan (Cody) Norgaard; Paige (Brandon) Norgaard; Carrie (Jeff) Foss; Amanda (Chad) Goforth; Sara (Josh) Eckel; Justin (Amy) Hashbarger; Jeffrey (Katie) Hashbarger; Jalen (Sydney) Hashbarger; Brandon Jacobson; Jordan (Stephanie) Jacobson; Taylor Jacobson.  14 Great-grandchildren.   Brothers; Roger Thompson; Rick (Jean)Thompson; Sister; Gail Thompson, Brothers-in-law; Glenn Deschene, Kenneth (Marilyn) Deschene, Roger Deschene.    

Robert was preceded in death by his wife Marlys; daughter, Julie; parents Carl & Juila; granddaughter Kelley; father and mother in law, Ole and Bea Deschene; sister-in-law Bernice. 

Visitation will be Monday, November 20, 2023 from 1:00 till 2:00 pm in the Finley Lutheran Church, Finley, ND, Funeral Service at 2:00 pm.
