Sherri Kaye Varberg, 60, Cooperstown, ND passed away Wednesday, May 21st, 2025, in her home surrounded by family.

Sherri Kaye Varberg was born October 12th, 1964, in Bismarck, North Dakota the daughter of Duane and Norma (Anderson) Kruckenberg.

Sherri attended elementary school for three years in Dodge, North Dakota before she moved to Valley City, North Dakota to live with her grandparents. Sherri graduated from Valley City High School in 1983.

One week after graduation, Sherri married Gary Varberg on May 27th, 1983. They made their home on Gary’s family farm in Cooperstown, North Dakota. Sherri was a homemaker for many years, while her husband was away for National Guard duties and worked for the Griggs County Highway Department. February 21st, 1987, Gary and Sherri had their first born, Timothy. June 20th, 1989, they had their daughter, Rebecca.

In 1996, the family moved to Jamestown where Sherri worked at Hi-Acres Manor as a housekeeper. Gary was getting deployed to Iraq in 2003 and the family decided to move back to the Cooperstown area. They settled on a farm in Hannaford, North Dakota. While Gary was away for deployment, Sherri stayed home to care for their two children. Once Gary returned home, Sherri returned to work and worked at the Pizza Ranch for many years. Sherri wanted a change of pace and started a job at Fettings in Finley, North Dakota. After the passing of her brother-in-law, Gary and Sherri moved back out on to the family farm in Cooperstown, ND. Sherri worked at Fettings faithfully until her diagnosis of AML (Acute Myeloid Leukemia) on August 9th, 2023.

Sherri fought her diagnosis of AML until her body became to tired to continue the fight.

June 30th, 2011, Sherri received her favorite title of all, grandma. Sherri loved her grandchildren more then life itself. She loved spending time with all her grandbabies any chance she could. One of her last outings before her passing was spent in Bismarck with her grandchildren. It may have been a struggle but all she wanted was one more trip of watching her grandbabies race.

Sherri is survived by her husband, Gary Varberg, Cooperstown, ND; one son, Timothy Varberg (Megan), Cooperstown, ND; and one daughter, Rebecca (Andrew) Rickford, Cooperstown, ND. Sherri had four grandchildren, Jordyn Rickford, Breckin Rickford, Kamdyn Rickford, and Matthew. Sherri also had two bonus grandchildren, Carter and Phoebi Thomas. Sherri also has two surviving brother, two sister, and nieces and nephews.

Sherri is proceeded in death by her parents, Duane and Norma; brother-in-law; Roger Nelson; and her grandparents.

Funeral services will be Thursday, May 29, 2025at 10:00 am in the Trinity Lutheran Church, Cooperstown, ND. Visitation will be one hour before services in the Church. Interment will be in the Fargo National Veterans Cemetery at 1:00 pm on Thursday.
