VIRGINIA F. KJELGAARD

December 3, 1930 — November 16, 2021

Virginia (Green) Kjelgaard, 90, died Tuesday, November 16th, 2021 at Golden Acres Manor in Carrington, ND.

She leaves her son, Bruce Kjelgaard—and wife Marcy (Tweed) Kjelgaard and two daughters, Nancy Kjelgaard and Peggy Kjelgaard—and husband Roger Shepperd; five grandchildren (Tammie, Shawn, Amy, Michael, and Sara); eighteen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.

Virginia, the daughter of Acy Levi and Hattie (Lowe) Green, was born on December 3rd, 1930 and raised in the Cooperstown and Sutton area. In her early years, she taught school in a one-room school house and did bookkeeping for her father’s gas business.

She met Myron Kjelgaard and they were married June 4th, 1950. They rented various farms in the Cooperstown, Hannaford and Sutton areas and in the Fall of 1961, they started a new life with their three children on their own farm near McHenry, ND.

Virginia was an amazing wife, mom, grandmother and friend.  She was known as Virginia by most, Ginny by her siblings and close friends, Mom and Grandma by her children and their children, and “Virginia Sugar” by the amazing caretakers at Golden Acres Manor.  Virginia was a hard-worker, a peacemaker, a piano/organ player and singer, a gardener, and a gifted crafter—crocheting, knitting, cross-stitching and embroidering. She enjoyed visiting old friends and relatives and making new friends—especially during their years as “Snowbirds” down south.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Myron Kjelgaard; her parents, Acy Levi and Hattie (Lowe) Green; three sisters, Winnifred Hochberger (and husband Hugo), Gladys Cooper (and husband Neal), Joyce Anderson (and husband Armand); and one brother, Kenneth Green (and wife Ada).

A private family service will be held at a later date.  Arrangements are under the direction of Quam-Plaisted-Cushman Funeral Service.  In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorial donations may be made out to the “Bread of Life Food Pantry” (serving all of Griggs County) and sent to Peggy Kjelgaard, P.O. Box 110, Beaver, Arkansas, 72613.
